History & snapshots

Change history

Every committed change in a session is recorded with:

  • who (user), when, the session and its sequence number
  • the object (id and display name at the time)
  • the action (transform, properties, parent, create, delete, restore)
  • the previous and new state of the fields that changed

History is available in the Skein window (History tab — click an entry to select the object), on the dashboard (Project → Activity), and through the API (GET /v1/projects/{id}/changes). Retention follows your plan (7 days on Free up to 2 years on Studio).

Camera movement, selections and drag previews are not recorded.

Snapshots

A snapshot is a copy of a whole scene file, saved on the server with a name ("Before Boss Fight Update").

  • Create: Skein window → Snapshots → Save snapshot. The scene is saved first. Text serialization is required (Unity's default Force Text).
  • List / delete: Skein window or dashboard. Deleting requires Owner or Admin.
  • Restore (Owner/Admin): after a confirmation dialog, everyone in the session is asked to load the snapshot. The scene file is replaced and re-opened; unsaved changes in that scene are lost (the dialog says so). Anyone who chooses Later has that scene paused — their changes there aren't shared until they load it. People joining later are offered the restored version.
  • Snapshot metadata records the creator, time, scene path/GUID, size, SHA-256, Unity version and the session sequence number.

Snapshots restore only the scene file. Assets the scene references (prefabs, materials) come from your project as usual.

Plan limits apply to the number of snapshots per project and total storage per workspace.
