Getting started
From "I installed this" to "I'm collaborating with my teammate" in about five minutes.
1. Create an account
Sign up at the Skein website (or on your self-hosted server). The Free plan includes two collaborators.
2. Install the Unity package
Unity 2021.3 LTS or newer. See Installing the Unity package. Nothing is added to your scenes and nothing ships in your game builds.
3. Sign in from Unity
Tools → Skein → Collaborate (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+K) → Sign in with browser. A code appears in Unity and your browser opens; confirm the code matches and click Approve.
4. Create a project and start a session
In the Skein window choose or create a project, then Start session.
Before your team joins, make sure everyone has pulled the same committed version of the scene you'll work in.
5. Invite your teammate
On the dashboard: Projects → your project → Members → Invite. They accept the email invitation, sign in from their Unity, select the project and Join the session.
6. Collaborate
- You'll see each other's cameras and names in the Scene view, and what each person has selected.
- Select an object to edit it — it's locked for you, and others see Editing:
. - Move, rename, toggle, tweak component values: teammates see it live.
- Use Snapshots before risky changes, and History to see who changed what.
- Save and commit the scene as usual when you're done.
Running Skein yourself
The whole platform runs locally with Docker — see Self-hosting & deployment and the repository README.
